Mujeres Paísanas, or country women, displays every Latin American and Hispanic country from Central America, to the Caribbean, all the way to the tip of South America. Each individual country is represented in their unique style and traditional dress. Although we may have similar languages and might be considered neighbors, this project is meant to show the differences and beauties of each country. I’ve learned so much, from their use of color, pattern, fabrics and accessories, about why the paísanos (country people) have pride in what they wear. Being Peruvian and Cuban myself, and growing up in a predominantly hispanic and latin community, I have always been fascinated by the different traditions and fashions these cultures bring and I hope you do too. This is painted in watercolor and digitally edited in a hand bound accordion styled book.
