The Uptown Arts Stroll is a month long event, held by the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance, throughout Northern Manhattan during June. This event is where artist, musicians, and creatives alike get to sell and share their work in the community.
Using this year’s theme of “Uptown Treasures: Exploring Past and Present” I incorporated Washington Heights and Inwoods some of the most iconic historical landmarks for this piece. Included from top to bottom, left to right, is the Inwood Farmhouse, Apollo Theater, The George Washington Bridge, and the Met Cloisters. Inspired by the tiling, mosaics, and decorative molding that cover the subway walls, I wanted to frame the beauty and bits of history that are scattered in Northern Manhattan.
For this piece I wanted to capture the vibrant and lively energy that Inwood and Washington Heights exudes. I drew a lot of inspiration from the people I see and the sounds I hear walking around town.

What it Means To Graduate As A First Generation Child
Growing up with immigrant parents isn’t always easy but there is a great appreciation for the people who support and care in helping you achieve such a large and important milestone, such as graduating. Creating this comic is a dedication to my own parents and a congratulations to all the other first-generation graduates and their families that can also say, ‘We’ve made it.’ You can find the full article here in the LA Times : Latinx Files.
Finding Comfort Away from Home
Moving to a country vastly different from your own, can be difficult and sometimes frustrating. Being able to find something to remind you of a place of comfort, can make things feel less isolating, even if the feeling is temporary. Here is a mini comic I wrote for the LA Times “Latinx Files” newsletter, about moving to Japan and finding comfort in the only way I could, through music.
